Samuel Franklin Cody developed this system in 1901 to get people into the air for the British army. A working replica of modern materials appeared in the ’80s in many kite events.

This simple box kite with an aluminium frame was made in the ’40s as part of the emergency equipment of liferafts. The survivor used the kite to get the wire antenna of the emergency radio into the air.
